2 killed, 9 hurt as bus falls into ravine in Negros Occ.

At least two people were killed while at least nine people were injured, four of them seriously, after a bus they were riding fell into a 70-meter-deep ravine in Negros Occidental province Wednesday night.

The Ceres bus (body number 5229) was heading for San Carlos City from Bacolod City when the incident occurred around 8 p.m., radio dzBB reported early Thursday.

Citing initial information from San Carlos police deputy chief Senior Inspector Ariel Pico, the report said one of the fatalities was the bus driver.

Four of the passengers who were seriously injured were rushed to the Bacolod City Regional Hospital while the others were brought to the San Carlos City Hospital.

An initial investigation showed the bus fell into a ravine in Rizal village in San Carlos City.

Police are still verifying information that the bus had faulty headlights at the time of the incident.
