Pacquiao gets yellow welcome at Makati hotel

He may not have gotten all Filipinos to wear yellow during his fight last weekend, but boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao got a yellow welcome at a Makati City hotel early Saturday.

Pacquiao received a yellow-themed welcome from officials and staff of the New World Hotel in Makati City where he went for breakfast and a brief rest, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

The hotel's employees wore yellow outfits, a nod to Pacquiao's request earlier this month that Filipinos wear yellow during his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley to show unity.

Even guests at the hotel went out of their rooms to get a glimpse of the establishment's most famous guest.

Many Filipino fans also gathered outside the hotel for a glimpse of Pacquiao, with some of them passing T-shirts to the hotel guards to bring to Pacquiao to sign, the report added.

During his fight with Mosley, Pacquiao had worn yellow gloves to dramatize his call for unity, which he said is needed in the country's fight against poverty.

Pacquiao arrived in Manila from Los Angeles to a hero's welcome early Saturday. He is due to go to Quiapo Church in Manila for a thanksgiving Mass.

After the Mass, he will then pay a courtesy call to President Benigno Aquino III in MalacaƱang.
