Lucky Stars

On February 3, a new animal year will come hopping in. According to Feng Shui experts, the year of the Rabbit will be a lot calmer and more smooth-sailing than the previous Tiger year. This, however, does not mean that we could all expect a lucky year.

A lot still rides on the luck of our animal signs and the directions of our houses, rooms and office desks.

Place this brass bowl with special elements and a set of six antique coins if your child’s room is in the East wing of your house.

According to Feng Shui expert Princess Lim Fernandez, people with the animal signs of rooster, rabbit, dog, and horse will be less lucky. South and east should be avoided this year since the Sickness, Three Killings and Disaster stars can be found there. After checking your personal forecasts (which will be published in the January 31 issue of the Manila Bulletin) and rearranging your bedroom and office furniture, don’t forget to do the same to your kids’ stuff in the nursery.

Kids too are affected by these invisible energies. Although their luck is dependent on their parents’ during the first years of life, there are ways to cure the negative energies and enhance the positive. One way to do this is to check the location of the nursery or their rooms as well as the position of their cribs and headboards.

Finding the best room location

In finding the best possible location for a room or a bed[/crib], we look at a person’s birth chart and the chart of the year. Birth charts can be drawn by a feng shui expert. However those who do not have the time to consult one can use the chart of the year to see how to avoid negative energies of the year,”Princess says.

Those who are just planning to set-up a nursery or a kid’s room this year may avoid these directions: North, East, South and the Center. Having a nursery in the South wing of the house may affect your child health, causing him to be sickly this year. This is especially true for female Snake and Horse. Problems involving the digestive tract will be common this year. On the other hand, those who will sleep in the East side of the house will have safety issues. They will be more prone to accidents. The same goes for the door of the room. Those facing the unlucky directions may also cause safety and health problems.

Remember though that these directions change every year. If it’s too inconvenient to change locations or if your child’s room is already set up in those directions, then just put appropriate cures. For those with nurseries or bedrooms in the east, put a brass bowl with special elements and a set of six antique coins in the east side of the room. Those with rooms in the south of the house, hang a health medallion together with an eight white jade and a set of six antique coins in the south side of the room.

Positioning the crib and the headboard

It’s not enough that your child’s room is in an auspicious direction. Where we actually lay our heads to sleep is also a very personal space. Thus, the position of the bed inside a room and the direction the headboard is pointing to could also affect a person’s chi.

“The effect will not be as severe as the position of the room in an unlucky direction of the house but it can still affect children. If it is possible to rearrange the room so the bed is not placed and its headboard not pointing to the unlucky directions this year, particularly the south and the east, all the better. The best time to do this is from February 1 to 4,” advises Princess.

If rearranging is not an option, then the same feng shui cures suggested for the room location may be used. If the headboard is pointing east, parents can hang a dynamic tai suey on the headboard.
