Aquino in Puerto Princesa to visit N7W bet underground river

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Philippines (PNA) -– The plane bearing President Benigno Aquino III landed at the base operations of the Camp Antonio Bautista Airbase this morning at 8:12 a.m. to visit the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, the Philippines’ official bet in the world search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Governor Abraham Kahlil B. Mitra and Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn led the entourage of city and provincial government officials in greeting the President, who is going to Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan to visit the world-famous subterranean park.

The President will go to Cabayugan on a Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter, where he will rest for a while at the newly-built Sheridan Hotel before entering the underground river.

It will be the first time for President Aquino to see the subterranean park, according to the City Information Office. His visit is expected to help promote the underground river and boost its votes in the global voting platform of the N7W.

According to Hagedorn, Mr. Aquino wanted to help promote the park and increase tourism visits in the Philippines. A presentation on climate change is also expected to be shown to the President at the Sheridan as soon as he comes back from his tour of the park.

Information gathered by the PNA also says that Hagedorn is expected to discuss with the President the “No Mining in Palawan” campaign, which is currently trying to gather 10 million votes in the country.
