TV5 exec unperturbed by Willie's absences on 'Willing Willie'

MANILA, Philippines – TV5’s Perci Intalan is not worried that their prized talent Willie Revillame is sometimes too ill to appear on “Willing Willie.”

The network’s vice-president for entertainment told PEP via email that Revillame’s absences are more than outweighed by the host’s passion for and dedication on the show.

"We know how hard Willie works on his show, iba ang level of dedication and attention to detail niya, not just as a host but also as producer of the show. So we completely understand that if and when he does have to rest or go on a break, it is not something na gusto niya but kailangan niya," he said.

Revillame revealed during the height of his row with ABS-CBN last year that he developed heart and other health problems from working long hours on his Kapamilya show then, “Wowowee.”

During his absence on “Willing Willie,” radio and TV host Mo Twister, Valenzuela councilor Shalani Soledad and Hitmaker and former “Pilipinas Win Na Win” host Rico J. Puno filled in for Revillame. He resumed work on Feb. 5 after he was confined from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 due to viral infection.

Even when he is absent, Intalan said Revillame remains on top of things on “Willing Willie.”

"We also know that just because you don't see him personally hosting the show, that doesn't mean that he is not monitoring it from wherever he is and coordinating with the production staff on every aspect of the program. Kaya naman the show maintains good ratings and has his personal touch pa rin," said he.

Intalan, however, declined to comment on the controversy involving Revillame and his closest showbiz pals, John Estrada and Randy Santiago. Revillame got upset with the two after they accepted an offer from ABS-CBN to do a noontime show. He claimed that he has already been in talks with the TV5 management for a similar show for them.

Intalan said that he is unaware of the details of Revillame’s discussions with the big bosses of TV5.

"As for the noontime show, we don't know the details because this is a show that Willie and his production team are cooking up to pitch to TV5. We aren't privy to how far discussions have gone and how many ideas Willie has discussed with John and Randy already," he related.

In a recent press conference, Estrada said there was no concrete offer from TV5 for them to do a noontime show. As he put it, “Usapang barkada lang.” It was ABS-CBN, he added, that first gave them a definite offer.

Estrada said he and Santiago have been trying to communicate with Revillame since he flared-up on the issue on “Willing Willie” last Jan. 26. However, their “Brother Willie” has not responded.

Nevertheless, Estrada still hopes to iron out things with Revillame eventually.
