Gov't to send relief goods to Filipinos affected by quake in Japan

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- Philippine Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said today the government will be sending a Philippine Air Force C-130 plane to Japan to bring relief goods like water and instant noodles for Filipinos affected by the earthquake and at the same time bring back to Manila those who opt to be repatriated.



"For those who would want to leave Japan but has no means, the C-130 could be used to bring them home," he said adding that the plane will land at Narita International Airport and will wait for Filipinos who would want to return to the country.

He said there is no information yet as to the schedule of departure of the C-130 as it is still subject to confirmation from Japan.

Lacierda said the Philippines has raised alert level 2 for Filipinos in Japan which means that the government is allowing voluntary repatriation.

He also encouraged Filipinos in Japan who has the means to personally shoulder their own expenses in returning to the country if they voluntarily wants to return to Manila.

"Our resources are limited, but the embassy there will certainly assist the Filipinos there who will seek their help," he said, adding that "the Philippine embassy will also provide shelter for those in need."
