MANILA, Philippines — Basketball player James Yap is “not ready” yet to go through the rigors of getting into a romantic relationship.
“Mahirap din na papasok ka sa isang relationship na hindi ka pa ready. Darating naman ‘yon,” said he to abscbnnews.com.
Yap was reticent in admitting rumors linking him to a variety of celebrities including beauty queen-actress Bianca Manalo and radio-TV host Grace Lee.
“Wala akong nililigawan. Wala akong girlfriend, wala akong dini-date,” he maintained.
At least, Yap was candid enough to admit one persistent rumor: his blossoming “friendship” with model-actress Isabel Oli.
According to Yap, his bond with Oli stemmed from them being both “bisaya.”
“Si Isabel Cebuana rin, ako Cebuano. Alam mo naman ang mga Cebuano mabilis ma-ano e...kung baga magaan ‘yong pakiramdam sa isa't isa but we're not dating,” Yap explained.
Yap revealed that Oli was among close friends he invited to his private birthday party recently.
“Siyempre kaibigan naman so in-invite ko,” he shared.
Yap neither confirmed nor denied if his friendship with Oli has the blessings of his estranged wife, Kris Aquino.
"Basta okay na ang presence niya [Oli] sa birthday ko,” he shared.
Yap has consistently been linked to the model-actress since October 2010 when they were rumored to have been sighted strolling together in a crowded mall. He clarified in past interviews that it was not a “date” but rather a simple, “accidental meeting.”
Oli was once linked to actor Paolo Contis. When news about her dating Yap reached Aquino, the latter allegedly simply quipped, "in fairness, maganda siya. I'm happy for them."
