Thousands of jobs offered at Labor Day job, livelihood fair

MANILA, Philippines – Local and foreign employers have pledged to bring thousands of work opportunities to job seekers during the 2011 Labor Day Job and Livelihood fair nationwide.

According to Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, the main job fair will be held at the Lagoon Area of Rizal Park between Maria Orosa Street and Roxas Boulevard in Manila on May 1.

"Labor Day is being celebrated on the theme, 'Matuwid na Daan Tungo Sa Kaunlaran Para Sa Lahat', mirroring the Aquino Administration's commitment to just and righteous and anti-corruption governance to increase opportunities and push back poverty," said Baldoz.

Baldoz added that simultaneous job and livelihood fairs will also be held in the country's 16 regions.

The regional jobs and livelihood fair will be held at the following locations:

  • SM Baguio and Baguio Convention Center in the Cordillera Administrative Region;
  • SM Rosales, Pangasinan in Region 1 (Ilocos);
  • Francisco L. Dy Coliseum, Cauayan, Isabela in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley);
  • SM San Fernando, Pampanga and SM Baliwag, Bulacan in Region 3 (Central Luzon);
  • SM Sta. Rosa, Laguna and SM Rosario, Cavite in Region 4A (CALABARZON);
  • Divine World College, Calapan City in Region 4B (MIMAROPA);
  • SM Naga City in Region 5 (Bicol);
  • SM Iloilo and SM Bacolod in Region 6 (Western Visayas);
  • SM Cebu City, Cebu International Convention Center, Abellana Sports Complex City, Cebu City and Macias Sports Complex, Dumaguete City in Region 7 (Metro Cebu and Central Visayas);
  • Tacloban City Convention Center in Region 8 (Western Visayas);
  • Western Mindanao State University Gymnasium, Zamboanga City, and Gaisano Capital, Pagadian City in Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula);
  • SM Cagayan de Oro in Region 10 (Northern Mindanao);
  • SM Davao, Gaisano Mall Davao in Region 11 (Davao Region);
  • KCC Mall in General Santos, Plaza Pavilion in Kidapawan City and the South Seas Mall, at Don R, Alfonso St., Cotabato City in Region 12 (Central Mindanao), and;
  • DOLE regional office in CARAGA.
The DOLE Secretary advised job applicants to bring with them their bio-data, clearances and authenticated birth certificates to facilitate easy processing of their job search during the nationwide fair.

"This will make their job search faster and easier," Baldoz said.

Aside from job opportunities, the DOLE and its bureaus and attached agencies will also provide employment facilitation, employment information, employment enhancement and training, self-employment and welfare services, and other assistance to workers and job seekers during the fair.

She added that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth, and Pag-Ibig will provide documentary issuance services to visitors, particularly in those fairs held in large cities.
