11 hurt in another Commonwealth Avenue road accident

At least 11 people were injured after an FB-type van and a passenger jeep collided along the notorious "killer highway" in Quezon City before dawn Tuesday.

The incident occurred near the Ayala Technohub where journalist-professor Lourdes "Chit" Estella-Simbulan was killed last May 13, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

"May 11 ang sugatan, anim diyan lulan ng closed van at ang lima sa jeep (Of the 11 injured, six were from the closed van and five were from the jeep)," said a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic enforcer.

The dzBB report said the impact of the collision caused the rear (passenger) section of the FB-type van to detach from the vehicle.

An initial investigation quoted the jeep's driver, initially identified as Daniel Talledo, as saying that the FB-type van suddenly went to the outer lane and collided with the jeep.

But a later dzBB report said Talledo eventually admitted hitting the van because he was speeding and his brakes failed.

MMDA enforcers are still investigating the incident, which snarled predawn traffic in the area.

It was the latest accident along Commonwealth Avenue, which earned the nickname "killer highway" due to the high incidence of road accidents there.

Last May 13, Estella-Simbulan was instantly killed after a bus rammed a taxi she was riding along Commonwealth Avenue.

The incident prompted authorities to be stricter in enforcing traffic rules along the "killer highway," but enforcers noted continued violations of speed limits there even after the incident.
