A power cable that caught fire after it was believed to be hit by lightning disrupted the operations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Tuesday afternoon, limiting its operations to between Baclaran and Monumento.

LRT Administration spokesman Hernando Cabrera said they were forced to temporarily stop operations between Abad Santos and Roosevelt stations after a power cable there appeared to burn at about 2:23 p.m.

"Sinarado ang Abad Santos to Roosevelt. May isang poste ng wire natin, ang kuryente na dinadaluyan ng kuryente na nagbibigay ng power, nagbaga ang poste. Umapoy, bumaga at nasunog. Ang visual inspection, mukhang tinamaan ng kidlat," Cabrera said in an interview on dzBB radio.

A report by GMA News' Ivan Mayrina on "24 Oras" Tuesday night said the operations from Abad Santos and Roosevelt stations were suspended for almost three hours.

It was the second glitch in LRT-1 operations for the day.

Earlier Tuesday, LRT-1 operations were disrupted due to what Cabrera called a busted circuit breaker.

Cabrera said the incident occurred at 8 a.m., involving a northbound coach at the Libertad station in Pasay City.

"Nag-short ang circuit breaker ng isang train natin at nag-cause ng delay 15 minutes. Ito ang pinabantay ko ano ang sanhi," he said on dzBB.

He said the incident occurred at about 8 a.m. at the Libertad Station in Pasay City. The affected coach was heading for Monumento in northern Metro Manila. The incident prompted the LRT station personnel to have the passengers get off and wait for the next train.

But Cabrera said the problem was compounded when about eight passengers refused to get off the affected coach.

The LRT-1 stretches from Quezon City to Baclaran in southern Metro Manila.
