The number of Filipinos seeking assistance due to the floods in Thailand is continuing to rise, the Philippine embassy there said Friday night.

In an update on its website, the Embassy said it has so far helped some 170 Filipinos displaced by the floods, even as requests for assistance continue to pour in.

“As of (7 p.m. Friday), the Embassy has directly assisted a total of 170 Filipinos who were displaced by the floods. Most of them are now staying temporarily with friends and/or relatives elsewhere in Bangkok. Some are staying in the Embassy and some in hotels. The majority of these Filipinos received relief assistance from donations given by the Embassy and various Filipino community organizations and individuals," it said.

But it said it continues to receive requests for assistance from Filipinos affected by the ongoing floods.

“They need clothes (for adults), food, water, milk for infants, and medicine," it said.

Last Friday, the Embassy sent a team to Nonthaburi province to provide relief items to a Filipino family of five and brought a Filipino family of four to a hotel.

Meanwhile, Philippine air carrier Cebu Pacific extended its grace period for passengers booked on its flights from Bangkok to November 15.

It said that while it will continue operating its 10 weekly flights from Manila to Bangkok and twice weekly flights from Clark to Bangkok, it will provide options to those affected.

The air carrier said: “(In) consideration of those booked on Cebu Pacific flights to and from Bangkok from October 26 to November 15, 2011, we will provide the following options:
Rebook for travel within 30 days without penalties

Reroute to a different destination but subject only to fare difference

Place the full value of their booking in a Travel Fund, for use up to 90 days."
