Christian Bautista: La Greta Did Not Walk Out

MANILA, Philippines – Balladeer Christian Bautista has rushed to Gretchen Barretto’s side in the wake of yet another walkout controversy hounding the actress.

Bautista, who is Barretto’s co-star in the Kapamilya series “Princess and I,” has slammed rumors that La Greta stormed out of their set lately.

Report had it that the eldest Barretto sister was peeved, for some unidentified reason, by a certain taping location in Tagaytay, apparently causing her to leave the set. Since she’s among the show’s main cast, aside from Kathryn Bernardo, Khalil Ramos, Enrique Gil and Daniel Padilla, the show’s staff and crew were allegedly left with no choice but to pack up that particular taping because she had gone.

“Hindi ko alam ang recent incident, pero wala naman akong narinig dahil hindi niya gusto ang location ay umalis,” Bautista was quoted as saying by PEP on their Thursday report.

However, the international singing star did not deny that they’ve had a few instances when they had to call it a day during taping.

“It’s basically rainy season kasi ngayon, so kapag naghihintay kami ng hours just to wait for the rain to stop… minsan napa-pack up talaga or minsan may other schedule.

"Pero ‘yung reason na ayaw niya… wala naman,” he enthused.

Bautista maintained that if such incident really happened, it would’ve been “improper” for him to go discussing about it behind Barretto’s back.

Speaking of Barretto, the 31-year-old singer confessed that he was initially intimidated by the veteran actress.

“Noong una medyo nate-tense ako, pero na-meet ko na kasi siya. Before, kumanta kami sa ‘ASAP,’ she had an album, so naalala nga niya ‘yun. Okay naman kami," he recalled.

Although he’s been recently part of the international Pan-Asian musical series “The Kitchen Musical” opposite singer-TV host Karylle, Bautista has been particularly absent in the local teleserye scene for almost six years now.

His last local acting project was for the now defunct fantasy series “Kampanerang Kuba” together with TV host-actress Anne Curtis.

As for his character in "Princess and I," he described it as “Medyo kakaiba ang hitsura ko dun, long hair ako para ‘pag nakita ng tao, ‘Sino ba ito?’

“Pero nag-e-enjoy ako uli to be back in a serye. Kabado din… naninibago din uli para sa mga call time, sa mga bagong eksena,” Bautista said.

The balladeer plays the role of Priam, a rebel who happens to have a past with Barretto’s character, Ashi Behati.

Since he’s been out of the acting circle locally for quite a while, Bautista said he had to undergo intense workshops in order for him to fully master his character’s personality.

“I did workshops and talagang rebelde ang role ko dun na bida/kontrabida na hindi mo ine-expect kung ano ang mangyayari,” he shared.

Meanwhile, Bautista revealed that his 10th anniversary special “The Way You Look At Me” will air on July 8.
