Now on its eighth consecutive year, theater festival Virgin Labfest opens on June 26 with one full-length play and several one-act plays from Filipino playwrights.

All plays will be staged for the first time, as Virgin Labfest features "untried, untested, unpublished and unstaged” works selected from submitted entries from all over the country.

This year's selection includes J. Dennis Teodosio's full-length play "Totong Hilot," and one-act plays "Isa Pang Soap Opera" by Reuel Molina Aguila, "Digital Divide" by Ricardo Novenario, "High Stakes" by Marianne Mixkaela Z. Villalon, "Ang Unang Regla ni John" by Em Mendez, "Hayop" by Mar Anthony Dela Cruz, "Alejandro" by Chuckberry Pascual, "Pagsubli" by Aizel Cabilan, "Symposium" by U Eliserio and Maynard Manansala, and "Mga Kuneho" by Guelan Luarca.

"Now on its eighth year, the Virgin Labfest has earned a solid reputation for its exciting and provocative line-up of one-act plays from playwrights both young and old," the Cultural Center of the Philippines said in a press release.

Virgin Labfest is an annual partnership project of the CCP, Writer’s Bloc, Inc., and Tanghalang Pilipino.

As in previous years, there will also be a showcase of three plays from last year's run.

Virgin Labfest 7 Revisited features Rae Red's "Kawala," Floy Quintos' "Evening at the Opera," and Ricardo Novenario's "Kafatiran."

Virgin Labfest 8 will be held from June 27 to July 18, 2012 at the CCP Tanghalang Huseng Batute with shows at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The full schedule is downloadable from the CCP website.

Tickets to the Virgin Labfest are at P300. For further inquiries, call the CCP Performing Arts Division at (02) 832-1125 local 1607 or 1606.
