From Twitter to the altar?

It’s official. Phil Younghusband and Angel Locsin are a couple.

After evading the question of labels for over a year, the Philippine Azkals star finally admitted on Monday that he and the award-winning actress officially became a couple in May this year.

In fact the two celebrities celebrated their first “monthsary” yesterday.

“We’re officially together, like boyfriend and girlfriend. We’re happy. We fall more and more in love with each other. Love and happiness are really the words to describe our relationship,” Phil revealed during the Clear Dream Match press launch at the Rockwell Tent in Makati City.

The 24-year-old Filipino-British football palyer said they became a couple a few weeks ago before giving the date May 27.

Theirs was a modern love story that began on the micro-blogging site Twitter in February, when Phil asked Angel to be his Valentine’s date.

“Hi Angel! This Phil. How are you? I was just wondering if you are free for Valentines day?” read the post by @PhilYHusband

After a few minutes, Locsin replied via her account @143redangel, “Hi! This is Angela Congrats on your win last night! Tnx for the invite but I have work on valentines.. Let’s try another day”

Younghusband had already admitted to having a crush on the actress and shortly after their Twitter exchange, fans put up Facebook and Twitter fan pages dedicated to “PhilGel.”

Since then, the two have been inseparable and have shown their support for each other’s careers. Angel became very visible during the Azkals games while Phil had Angel’s name emblazoned on his shoe.

In an interview from the June-July issue of Maven magazine, Phil thanked Angel for being very supportive of his personal and professional career. “Angel is so supportive of me, and will give me advice or tips about things to help me improve both as a person and an athlete. In some of my matches in Taiwan, Singapore and Nepal, she’d be on the bench watching and cheering for moral support.”

The football star said Angel is his “true happiness and true love.”

“For me, Angel is perfect. She has everything, beauty, brains and talent. But the most amazing thing about her is her heart. She wants to help out and she is genuine. She always wants to give back. Everyday our love grows stronger and we become closer and closer. She’s not only the woman I love, but she is my best friend too,” he said in the article.

Despite his admission, Phil said it was still too early to talk about marriage as they still have a lot of individual goals in their respective careers.

“We’re very happy. It’s too early to plan that. “But, as I’ve said, I want to have a future with Angel and I look forward to more happiness with her. We’re in love but we have to work first and things like that,” he said.

In earlier interviews, Angel had said they didn’t feel the need to put any labels on what they have but admitted that Phil was her everything. “Well, sa amin kasi yung pagiging boyfriend-girlfriend, parang we’re more than that. Parang hindi namin kailangan ng labels pero kumbaga siya ang lahat sa buhay ko at ako ang lahat sa buhay niya. Parang he’s my everything.”

Phil vs. James
Since they joined the Philippine national football team, Phil and James have become instrumental in the Azkals victories and in promoting football in the country. The question on who is the better player, however, has always been a topic of debate.

That issue will finally be settled as the Younghusbands lead their separate teams on August 25 at the University of Makati football field for the Clear Dream Match.

Phil says it will be the first time that he and James will play against each other competitively.

For this special match, Phil and James will get to pick twenty football players for their respective team from among the Top 40 players voted via Clear’s Facebook page.

The draft pool not only includes the top football players in the country but also celebrities such as Brazilian models and Socceroo FC members Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide, and Hideo Muraoka; United Football League players Anton del Rosario, Nate Burkey, Freddy Gonzales, and Eric Dagroh; college stars Patrick Deyto (DLSU), Miko Mabanag (Ateneo), and Shirmar Felongco (UST); Philippine Volcanoes members Andrew Wolff and Eric Tai; as well as Steven Silva and TV host Paolo Bediones.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation. An organization known for taking kids off the streets and giving them shelter, food, education, and a fighting chance at a viable future. The organization is also know for training players to compete in both the Homeless World Cup and its version for younger kids.
