Bea: ‘John Lloyd can make any woman fall in love with him!’

We first met them as Yuri Orbida and Katrina Argos in the TV series Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay; cheered for Popoy and Basha in One More Chance; and shed tears of joy as Allan Alvarez and Mia Samonte found themselves reunited in Miss You Like Crazy.

Of all the love teams in this generation, no other on-screen couple could perhaps generate the same whirlwind of emotions as John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

With each subsequent project, John Lloyd and Bea have been able to show more depth in their acting abilities as they take on more complex characters and mature scripts.

But perhaps the most impressive accomplishment of their team-up, besides the box-office success of their movies, is being able to sustain their chemistry for 10 years without getting romantically involved with each other.

Close but not quite
The question why they never took their onscreen partnership to the next level again became the topic of conversation during the press conference of their upcoming movie The Mistress, at the Cravings restaurant in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City.

The Kapamilya actress said she considers working with John Lloyd as one of the greatest gifts she has received.

Despite that familiarity, Bea admits she continues to discover a lot of new things about John Lloyd whenever reunites with the actor.

Parang may ganun na hindi mo maipaliwanag,” said the Kapamilya actress.

But when asked if she was ever attracted to her “reel” lover, Bea gave a short but meaningful answer; “Dios ko naman, lahat ng babae napapaibig ni John Lloyd!”

John Lloyd, for his part was a bit more direct saying; “Napakasinungaling ko naman kung di ko aaminin na at one point hindi ko siya nagustuhan, hindi ko lang pinursue.”
Bea confirmed that no courtship ever happened.

. . ‘diba, mas maganda nga how it turned out, na hindi pinilit?

“So, baka hindi talaga kinailangang mangyari kaya umabot kami sa sampung taon,” the beautiful actress explained.

When asked what she thinks is the secret behind their on screen chemistry, Bea answered; “Hindi ko nga rin po alam.

“Siguro kasi mula noon, we offered nothing but sincerity,” John Lloyd interjected.

At one point the talented young actor was asked to share his thoughts on love and relationships;
“I’m a strong believer of the saying, ‘You don’t choose love, it chooses you.’”

Does it mean he has been chosen to love again after his recent breakup with Shaina Magdayao, and his rumored relationship with Angelica Panganiban?

“Lagi po akong pinipili ng pag-ibig. Araw-araw ng aking buhay,” he answered smiling.

When the question slowly transitioned to the “Perfect Sunday” Instagram photo collage showing him and Angelica, John Lloyd begged off answering any leading question.

“Alam n’yo, alam ko ‘yung pinupuntahan ng tanong ninyo, this is not the right place, the right time to talk about it. Some other time, maybe? Not now because Bea and I are here to celebrate our 10 years in the business and we have a beautiful movie to promote.”

A milestone movie
In celebration of their 10th year anniversary as a love team, Star Cinema reunites the two young stars in their most mature film ever.

According to Bea, she considers The Mistress as a milestone project and a grand celebration for her and John Lloyd.

Bea added that the movie is her bravest one to date, “Seriously, kinakabahan talaga ako hanggang ngayon.

That is why she is thankful that John Lloyd was there to support her. “I’m very fortunate that siya ang ka-partner ko. He’s very generous when it comes to giving emotions and giving me reactions sa scenes ko.

John Lloyd shared the sentiment saying that there are scenes that he could only do with Bea.
The Mistress tells the story of JD Torres (John Lloyd) who falls in love with Sari Alfonso (Bea) a beautiful woman who is sadly committed to a married man.

The movie also reunites John Lloyd and Bea with director Olivia Lamasan who first discovered their potential for a love team. Also part of The Mistress are veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, who plays the role of Rico, Sari’s rich benefactor, and multi awarded actress Hilda Koronel as Regina, the legal wife of Rico. Completing the cast are Anita Linda, Carmi Martin, Tony Mabesa, K Brosas, Gabe Mercado, Minnie Aguilar, Nor Domingo and Clarence Delgado.
