Yasmien Addresses Discord With Mom

MANILA, Philippines – Kapuso actress Yasmien Kurdi, now a wife and a mother to a month-old baby girl, is reportedly in a disagreement with her mother Miriam following the former's decision to marry her longtime non-showbiz boyfriend almost a year ago.
The mother-daughter dispute, according to an article published on PEP last Saturday, stemmed from the young couple’s religious differences. Yasmien and her family are members of the Iglesia Ni Kristo while her husband, former flight attendant Rey Soldevilla Jr., is Catholic.

Yasmien said that she and her mom haven’t been on speaking terms for a while now, with the latter not even having the opportunity yet to meet her grandchild named Ayesha Zara. Despite the unfortunate situation, the actress said that she understands where her mother is coming from.

“’Di ba, lahat naman na magulang, ang gusto lang naman nila, na alam naman nila kung ano ang tama sa anak nila? So, I think magrespetuhan na lang talaga ng pananaw namin,” Yasmien said, also insisting that she “super” loves her mom.

“Ayoko siyang masaktan, pero… ayun,” she trailed off, begging off from answering further queries about the current state of their relationship.

On the other hand, Yasmien’s Lebanese father seemed to approve of her marriage. “Ang dad ko ang pumirma para sa akin na puwede akong magpakasal. Ang pagkakaalam ko, kapag under 25 ka dito sa Philippines, kailangan mo pa kahit pirma ng magulang,” she related.

Meantime, Yasmien wants to focus caring for her daughter. She also intends to finish her studies at the New Era College, where she’s currently a junior in Nursing. Showbiz, on the other hand, might have to take the backseat for now as Yasmien intends to return only when she feels capable of balancing career and family life.
