Some 567 Filipino teachers from 10 schools in Saudi Arabia were feted on "World Teachers' Day" on October 5 in a celebration organized by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

With the theme "My Teacher My Hero," the activities were held at the Philippine Embassy grounds.

The celebration began at 6:00 a.m. with a fun run for the teachers.

This was followed by a Philippine flag-raising ceremony.

The teachers later joined “laro ng lahi" or traditional Filipino games and competed in badminton, volleyball, and basketball.

During the ceremonies honoring the teachers, former Education Secretary Fe Hidalgo was the guest of honor .

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ezzedin Tago cited this year’s international theme of “gender equality."

He recalled graduating from the Philippine School in Jeddah, the predecessor of the International Philippine School in Jeddah.

Tago commended the teachers and the schools and urged them to continue their dedication and hard work in providing quality education to their students.
