DPWH speeds up P542M rehab of Antique road

To boost eco-tourism by 2012, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has accelerated work on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of a major road in Antique province in Western Visayas.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the Pandan-Libertad Road project in Antique province includes the construction of two road sections and rehabilitation or construction of 12 bridges.

"The improvement of this road network will provide easy access not only for Antiqueños in northern Antique but also for foreign and local tourists who travel along the nautical highway going to Boracay from Iloilo," Singson said in a news release posted on the DPWH website.

He said the project, once completed, will further boost eco-tourism in Northern Antique and enhance agricultural productivity and economic progress.

However, Singson pointed out the road work may not be completed for this summer, saying the project is scheduled for completion in April 2012.

Among the bridges to be rehabilitated are Nauring, Bugang, Duyong, Quibacan, Igot, San Roque, Nipa and Iniyawan while the bridges to be reconstructed are Inigman, Maramig, Cawayan and Idiayan.
