The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has posted online an initial list of at least 50 “billboard violators" in southern Metro Manila.

The MMDA said in a statement the violators failed to comply with various safety requirements.

The list showed that 28 billboards were in Makati area along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) northbound lane; eight along EDSA southbound, also in Makati; and 14 in Pasay City.

A link to the online list was posted Friday on the government’s Twitter account.

Included in the list was an electronic billboard along Kalayaan corner EDSA that the MMDA said had “no building permit" from the Makati government.

Many other ground signs were also found to have not complied with “setback clearances," according to the MMDA.

The MMDA also said some signs lacked clearances from the Department of Public Works and Highways.

At least one in Pasay City was also found to be “over-sized," it said.

The MMDA said the billboard operators will receive notice of violation requiring them to rectify their violations within 15 days.

The subject billboard will be permanently dismantled by authorities should they not comply with safety requirements, it added.

Earlier this month, the MMDA received a boost in its drive against unsafe billboards from a group of outdoor advertisers.

The Outdoor Advertising Association of the Philippines signed a memorandum of agreement with the MMDA to help regulate commercial billboards along major roads of Metro Manila.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino reiterated the billboard drive is not meant to put advertisers out of business but to safeguard public safety by implementing the provisions of the National Building Code.
