MANILA, Philippines — Socialite and hotel heiress Paris Hilton got a taste of the famed Filipino hospitality as hundreds of fans and plain curious onlookers gave her a warm reception late Sunday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

A minor glitch, however, marred her arrival when she complained that her two iPad units were missing.

Airport officials confirmed the report, although it was not clear whether the gadgets were lost, misplaced, or stolen.

The arrival area of NAIA Terminal 1 was crowded with fans and onlookers with airport security officials on hand to clear way for Hilton and for crowd control.

She is in town to launch her signature shop here. She will be staying in the country for five days, combining business and pleasure.

Hilton was clearly overwhelmed by the warm greeting, tweeting she felt “so welcomed” shortly upon arriving. “Mabuhay Philippines… Mahal ko kayo…” she tweeted.

She arrived in Manila onboard Emirate Airways Flight EK 334, which touched down at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hilton, a known fashionista, wore a yellow canary top partnered in blue jeans and flat shoes.

Filipino fans sought out for her autograph but they were prevented by airport officials for security reasons. Members of the media were even barred to interview her.

Hilton will make her only public appearance at the SM Megamall for the opening of the Paris Hilton Megamall shop.

There were also reports, although still be to be verified, that she plans to take a dip in the waters of world-famous Boracay Island, known for its white sands.

In the new store, Hilton will present the latest collection of handbags and accessories that carry her name.

“I love this collection; it’s one of our best ones so far,” she said. “I was very inspired by old Hollywood glamour as well as the trends of new celebrities. For fall, I wanted a very luxurious and eye-catching collection so we used sequins, reflective materials and mixed it with faux fur, patent, faux ostrich and crocodile. For the toned down, everyday styles I chose shiny and appliqués.”

Just last May, the first branch of “Paris Hilton Handbags and Accessories” opened at Abreeza Mall in Davao City.
