Kris Aquino breaks silence, quits showbiz

MANILA – The Queen of all Media Kris Aquino announced on Thursday she will resign from her shows in ABS-CBN amid the latest controversy involving her, ex-husband James Yap, and their five-year-old son James Jr. (popularly known as Bimby).
Before coming out on national television on Thursday, Kris shared she asked her son on what to say in the tell-all interview. She said it broke her heart when the five-year-old replied: “Mama, just say it's Bimb.”

She felt that to provide a better life to her sons, Joshua and Bimby, she must turn her back from the industry that embraced her through the years.

Kris said it wasn't an easy decision, but for the sake of her children, she is willing to leave showbiz. "I'm stating this now categorically. I have to make a sacrifice. They don't deserve this. My family doesn't deserve this suffering. I don't want to be selfish for the rest of my life."

Kris currently has three shows in ABS-CBN. She's doing prime time drama series "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw", early morning show "Kris TV" and reality-talent competition "Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4". She’s also endorsing numerous local and international brands.

"I'm giving up my shows. Hindi ko sinasabi yan just so that I could say na I'm the one making the big sacrifice. Higit sa karera ko, mas mahal ko ang anak ko. At pag lumaki ang anak ko, gusto kong malaman niya na binigay ko ang lahat."

"I can't speak about forever (leaving showbiz). I can speak what is best for my son. Sa ngayon, sa puso ng isang nanay, ito yung dinidikta sa akin na gawin ko para sa anak ko."

Kris also recalled the December 3 and March 8 incidents that pushed her to file a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) from James, ordering the basketball player to keep a distance of at least 100 meters from her, Bimby, and their household staff.

Kris, accompanied by her older sisters Ballsy, Pinky and Viel during the interview, shared what happened in December 3, when James walked into her room after playing with Bimby.

"I felt violated as a woman. I was inside my room. Yung pagpasok niya sa kwarto ko. Yung sinasabi niyang biro niyang paghalik sa akin, pagkuha sa braso ko na nag-react ako. Nung sinabihan ko siya ng 'Get out. Umalis ka sa kwarto ko,' the fact na nagstay pa siya doon, nilabag na niya yung batas na nagpo-protecta sa mga babae," she said.

Kris added that James really tried to hurt her in front of their son.

"Dinuroduro niya ako. Kung ano anong masasakit na salita ang sinabi niya sa akin, ginawa niya ang lahat ng yun sa harap ng anak namin," Kris said.

James, however, denied that he sexually assaulted his former wife.

The television host countered her ex-husband's statement that she was just acting to get the sympathy of Bimby. Kris said her son is intelligent enough to know what is real and what is acting.

In December 4, Kris said she texted James that she's not comfortable seeing him inside her condominium unit, adding that he's free to see and visit his son but not inside their home.

"I already feel I did everything to be civil to you pero paulit ulit yung pambabastos na ginagawa sa pagkatao ko," Kris told James.

The last straw between the ex-couple took place last March 8 at the lobby of Kris' condominium in Makati.
Kris walked to the lobby when she saw Bimby crying. She asked her son what is happening and the five-year old replied: "Mama, Papa kept on saying he never hurt you but he's a liar because I saw everything. I was there and I saw it."

After this, Kris texted her sisters and decided to file the TPO. She also denied that her decision to file a TPO was triggered by James' refusal to sign their son's adoption paper.

The television host also reacted to James' interview, where the cager revealed Kris dropped the name of her brother, President Benigno Aquino III.

Kris said that even when they were having problems in the early years of their marriage, James would often approach Aquino but her brother wouldn't meddle in their marital woes.

"It's not even about me. It's about my son. Pero yung i-jeopardize pa din niya yung magandang panunungkulan ng kapatid ko, sobra na."

She finds it unfair that Aquino’s governance will be tainted by her personal problems. Kris said she never texted Aquino on this issue.

"We just felt we have to support Kris all the way. Away nila ni James, matatanda na sila, bahala na sila. Pero yung bata nakakawa talaga. That what propelled me to appear," Ballsy said.

The eldest of the Aquino sibling added that among all of them in the family, she's the closest to James after Kris and the cager's annulment. She's hurt by James' interview, saying they've welcomed James in the family wholeheartedly.

"Gusto naman namin na malapit din siya sa bata. Na lalaki yung bata na may kinikilalang tatay."

"Kaya ang sama-sama ng loob ko nung narinig ko kagabi na sinanggot pa yung pamilya namin, pati si Noy na kesyo daw na may three years. Parang we were not kind naman to him."

Pinky added that "James you know in your heart na ang pagtrato namin sa iyo ay parang pamilya. Kahit annulled na kayo, we still treated you very well. James, kilala mo kami. Sa dami ng pinagdaanan ninyo, sa settlement, wala kang narinig sa amin."

As of this posting, James requested for a hold-departure order for his son and Kris. The television host, on the other hand, filed a Permanent Protection Order that will be discussed in court in April 8.
When asked why the people should believe her and not James, Kris ended the interview saying: "You don't have to believe me, you just have to believe my son."
